Job description

Countryside YMCA is hiring a Food Service Worker to prepare and serve hot lunches and snacks in our childcare program kitchen. This is a great entry-level cooking/kitchen job for someone who enjoys hands-on work, a steady daily routine, and helping take care of kids in the community. No prior culinary certification required — we'll train you on our procedures.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Prepare, heat, and serve hot lunches and snacks to children daily
  • Wash dishes and keep the kitchen clean and organized
  • Follow health department food safety guidelines
  • Count and track meal portions accurately
  • Provide friendly, quality customer service to program staff and children
  • Other kitchen duties as assigned by your supervisor

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Reliable and punctual attendance
  • Ability to interact respectfully with children and coworkers
  • Possess good judgment and common sense

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent repetitive motion with hands and upper body related to food preparation activities.
  • Occasional standing and walking (average 10 foot– 15 foot) in kitchen areas.
  • Occasional bending and lifting (average 20 times per day) of bulk foods, food bins and hot food caddies: bulk food items are lifted from the floor and weigh 10-50 lbs. each, food bins weigh 30 – 70 lbs., are lifted from floor and work tables and loaded into vans.
  • Occasional crouching to retrieve items from lower shelves. Regular reaching occurs to retrieve utensils and food items from storage shelves and cupboards up to 8 foot high.
