As a Junior Rock Mechanics Lab Technician, you will help deliver accurate, highquality laboratory work that supports environmental, materials, and infrastructure projects both locally and globally. You will be part of a team that values precision, safety, and innovation while helping shape healthier, more resilient communities.


Your Impact

In this role, you will:

  • Perform routine laboratory testing on rock core samples in accordance with standard methods and specifications.
  • Prepare, label, log, and manage samples to maintain accurate tracking and traceability.
  • Operate laboratory equipment for rock core testing, including load frames, direct shear apparatus, and sample cutting and grinding equipment.

  • Accurately record observations and test results in laboratory logs, templates, and digital systems.
  • Follow health, safety, and quality procedures to maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment.
  • Support senior technicians and technologists by assisting with test setup, equipment cleaning, and general lab organization.

  • A college diploma or certificate in geological technology, civil engineering technology, construction/materials engineering, or a related field. 

  • Experience with sample handling, mineral identification, and/or site investigations, gained through academic, coop, or entrylevel experience. 

  • Exposure to materials or geotechnical testing through academic labs, internships, coop terms, or earlycareer roles.

  • Familiarity with basic laboratory practices and materials testing equipment. 

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform repetitive testing tasks accurately in a laboratory environment. 

  • Ability to safely lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs as part of routine laboratory duties. 

  • A demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and developing technical skills related to rock testing and engineering properties.

Compensation 

  • AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $51,800 - $68,600
  • MB & ON: $47,200 - $65,000
  • NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $46,800 - $62,100
