AnimalBiome analyzes microbial communities and develops evidence-based dietary and microbiome restoration solutions, including fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) and novel probiotic formulations.

About the Position


The Next Generation Probiotic (NGP) Development Lab Assistant will support the manufacturing and testing activities within AnimalBiomeโ€™s probiotic production laboratory.

This entry-level role performs a variety of laboratory and production tasks, including capsule production, ingredient preparation, media and buffer preparation, sample handling, microbial culture maintenance, and routine microbiological methods. The Lab Assistant must perform this work in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality requirements, and biosafety protocols.


This position is ideal for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in probiotic development, microbiology, and biotechnology manufacturing focused on companion animal health.




Responsibilities


  • Perform probiotic production tasks,including ingredient preparation, mixing, capsule filling, labeling, and packaging, with attention to quality and efficiency.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment in accordance with safety and contamination-prevention requirements.
  • Prepare microbiological media, buffers, reagents, and other laboratory materials in accordance with established procedures.
  • Support routine microbiology activities, sample handling, and culture maintenance.
  • Conduct routine quality-control and stability assessments of probiotic materials under established procedures.
  • Support the maintenance, inventory, and quality control of Animal Biomeโ€™s proprietary microbial culture collection.
  • Operate laboratory and production equipment after completing required training.
  • Perform routine equipment cleaning, inspection, and preventive maintenance.
  • Assist with basic equipment troubleshooting under supervision.
  • Accurately document laboratory procedures, observations, results, material usage, and equipment activity using established templates and data management systems.
  • Adhere to laboratory safety requirements and consistently use appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Identify and promptly report deviations, safety concerns, contamination risks, equipment problems, or procedural issues to supervisors.
  • Participate in team projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with training on routine laboratory procedures as needed.
  • Adapt to evolving workflows, procedures, and production priorities.
  • Utilize laboratory software and digital tools for data entry, sample tracking, inventory, and documentation.



Working Conditions


  • Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including laboratory coats, gloves, masks, and eye protection.
  • Work in a laboratory environment where biological materials, including live commensal bacteria, are processed.
  • Periodic exposure to strong or distinctive odors associated with biological materials and natural ingredients, such as mushroom extract and microbial biomass.

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Animal Health, Microbiology, or a related field with demonstrated interest in animal health.
  • Relevant laboratory, biotechnology, manufacturing, food-production, veterinary, or animal-health experience.
  • Demonstrated interest in companion-animal health, microbiome science, probiotics, or biotechnology.




Compensation


$45,000โ€“$58,000 per year


AnimalBiomeโ€™s salary structure is informed by job market data. Compensation is determined by education, experience, skills, and internal equity. New hires typically receive offers between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range.
