About the Role

We're looking for a hungry video journalist to fill a paid entry-level position as a Newsroom Fellow on our video team, carrying out administrative tasks, helping build, produce, and publish a number of our video shows. The video journalist will work across Semafor's coverage verticals, which run the gamut, covering geopolitics, climate change, technology, science, culture, business and finance, and American politics.

Ideal candidates would be self-starters, keen to get involved in a growing newsroom, and contribute in any and all ways, including administrative tasks, research, and most importantly producing and editing video. 

The position will be in our NYC offices. The Newsroom Fellow will report to the Head of Video, and work with reporters and editors across the newsroom. Candidates will be asked to complete an editing and writing exercise as part of the interview process, and must retain the right to work where they live.

Your responsibilities:
  • Working in a small team, providing critical admin, video production, editing, research, and other logistical support for Semafor across multiple verticals.
  • Stay on top of a broad range of issues to be able to identify topics from the newsroom that make for strong social video.
  • Collaborate closely with the rest of editorial and work seamlessly across all of Semafor to produce videos for all of our channels.
  • Work with reporters to turn their stories into scripts that work for social video while retaining best-in-class journalism standards.
  • Assist on-site or virtually during Semafor events to ensure newsworthy clips publish after live interviews on stage.
  • Work with other video producers and editors on various production needs that surface with a continuous news cycle.

  • A willingness to take on a variety of tasks and responsibilities
  • A Strong understanding and experience working in Adobe, specifically Premiere Pro and After Effects.
  • An understanding of various video platforms and the type of video that audiences expect to consume.
Compensation:

We are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The pay for this role is $29.00 per hour.
