Job description

This Department of War enterprise data and analytics program delivers mission-critical capabilities that enable leaders across the Department to make faster, better-informed decisions using trusted data at scale. Leidos Digital Modernization sector is seeking an experienced Journeyman Software Engineer to support the delivery, enhancement, and adoption of enterprise data and analytics products used across multiple DoD organizations.
In this role, you will work alongside government partners, engineers, and other industry teammates to translate operational and strategic requirements into scalable, production-ready solutions. You will contribute directly to product planning, execution, and continuous improvement-helping ensure capabilities are delivered efficiently, aligned to mission priorities, and positioned for sustained success.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a high-visibility, enterprise program at the intersection of data, analytics, and emerging AI technologies. Ideal candidates are motivated by mission impact, comfortable operating in complex stakeholder environments, and interested in building deep domain expertise while delivering capabilities with real-world national security outcomes.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop, test, and maintain software applications and services supporting system capabilities.
  • Implement software solutions using modern programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, Go, or similar).
  • Support development of APIs, microservices, and distributed system components.
  • Assist in integrating software with cloud infrastructure and DevSecOps pipelines .
  • Support automated build, test, and deployment processes within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Perform debugging, troubleshooting, and resolution of software defects and integration issues.
  • Support system configuration, deployment, and operational sustainment activities.
  • Assist in ensuring software compliance with cybersecurity and system administration requirements.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, infrastructure, and cybersecurity teams to support integrated delivery.
  • Contribute to performance tuning, scalability improvements, and system reliability efforts.
  • Maintain technical documentation, code repositories, and software artifacts.
  • Participate in SAFe ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Active Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or related technical discipline and at least 4 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree in a related field and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • At least one of the following foundational qualification pathways consistent with DoD 8140 requirements:
    • Current DoD 8570/8140 baseline certification appropriate for Basic System Administrator roles (e.g., Security+, Network+, A+, or equivalent),
    • Offerings listed in the DoD 8140 Training Repository,
    • Demonstrated equivalent training and experience qualifying under DoD 8140 foundational qualification alternatives.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in software engineering and development.
  • Experience developing software applications in enterprise environments.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Java, Python, Go, or similar.
  • Experience developing APIs or microservices-based applications.
  • Experience working with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience supporting software testing, debugging, and integration activities.
  • Strong knowledge of DevSecOps principles and practices.
  • Experience supporting Agile or SAFe environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active Top Secret clearance.
  • Experience supporting software development across NIPRNet, SIPRNet, and JWICS environments.
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience integrating with data platforms, AI/ML services, or analytics systems.
  • Exposure to DevSecOps pipelines and infrastructure integration.
  • Familiarity with secure coding practices and cybersecurity compliance requirements.
  • Experience applying system administration concepts, including configuration management and deployment operations.
  • Experience with software testing, including unit, regression, security, integration, compliance, performance, and acceptance testing.
  • Proficiency in developing and maintaining automation frameworks and integrating with identity and access management systems.
  • Experience developing enterprise software solutions in DoD or Federal environments.
  • Advanced cloud certification (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect - Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent).
