Job description

Position Summary

The Loss Protection Engineer supports underwriting and risk management efforts in the builder's risk insurance space. This role involves evaluating construction exposures, reviewing loss control data, and helping translate technical findings into actionable risk insights. The position works closely with underwriters, clients, and inspection partners to promote effective loss prevention practices. It is an ideal opportunity for an early-career professional to develop expertise in construction risk and property insurance.

What will your job entail?

  • Conduct loss control inspections of active construction sites to evaluate compliance with established risk management standards and best practices.
  • Coordinate and manage loss control inspections to ensure projects are thoroughly evaluated, and support the claims process by providing relevant insights from risk assessments and site observations.
  • Review loss control reports and communicate findings to underwriting teams, including tracking and following up on outstanding recommendations to ensure timely remediation and site compliance.
  • Analyze complex or incomplete field data, exercising judgment to interpret findings and recommend practical solutions or alternative approaches when standard information is unavailable or conflicting.
  • Maintain and utilize loss control systems and tools to support risk evaluation, including translating engineering and survey data into risk quality ratings and preliminary loss estimates.
  • Provide technical support to underwriters by offering insights related to construction practices, engineering considerations, and fire protection systems, particularly for wood-frame construction risks.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training materials or workshops to enhance internal understanding of construction risk exposures and mitigation strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders, serving as a resource for loss prevention guidance and collaborating on effective risk mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Risk Management, or related field
  • (internships or co-ops acceptable)
  • Basic understanding of construction methods and materials
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

  • Exposure to builder's risk, or construction risk management
  • Familiarity with NFPA 51b & 241 standards
  • Experience reading construction drawings and project schedules
  • Internship or field experience in construction, engineering, or insurance

The target salary range for this position is $78,050.00 - $80,000.00 annually.

The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands.
