Job description

VCA Metroplex Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Patient Care Attendant to join our skilled technician team at our AAHA-accredited, 24 hour emergency practice in Irving, Texas.
This is a great opportunity to work with a dynamic team and expand your knowledge while working in a fast-paced environment! You will be challenged to use your know-how and skills to the best of your ability, in a teaching hospital, with a team that will support you along the way.
The ideal candidate will be a team player who is friendly, outgoing, people - oriented and has excellent communication and client service skills. A minimum of 1 year experience in a veterinary clinic (or in a closely related business) is preferred. This is a great entry level position in to emergency and specialty medicine. Individuals that are enrolled in an accredited LVT program or CVA course will also be eligible to participate in a structured training program that will provide additional mentorship and training.
Basic Duties of the Patient Care Attendant include the following:
  • Assists with patient restraint, cleaning, tidying, restocking and organization of treatment areas.
  • Assists both clients and patient - lifting, Q & A, cleaning up after pets etc.
  • Observes and maintains the cleanliness and well- being of hospitalized patients; communicates updates on patients to technician staff.
  • Assists doctors and nurses with procedures upon request and as comfort level allows.
  • If requested, TPR and weighs patients at time of admittance along with updating information on hospitalized patients.
  • Checks animals in cages to make sure bedding is clean. Changes litter boxes and walks dogs as needed.
  • Prepares and serves food to patients as instructed.
  • Records patient observations on the treatment sheet.
  • Helps restrain animals for blood draws, IV catheters, ultrasounds, x-rays, treatments, and examinations.
  • If requested and if skill level allows performs blood draws.
  • Prepares laboratory samples for courier pick up and assists in running in house lab work.
  • Assists in filling prescriptions.
  • Maintains clean treatment tables so that they can accommodate the next patient.
  • Serves as instrument technician when needed, Assists in surgery circulator, sterilizes and packs surgical packs. Maintains Surgery instruments, maintain cleanliness and organization of surgical area.
  • Stocks treatment areas
  • Helps to maintain hospital organization and cleanliness.
  • If requested and skill levels allow, administer treatments.
  • If requested and skill levels allow, act as assigned nurse to boarding patients.
