Job description


The Accounting Assistant is an entry-level position that will train me to do accounting tasks and assist the accounting team. It’s an excellent opportunity for advancement, and Accounting Assistant will be promoted to Staff accountant in the future if he/she performs and meets the goal according to S&E’s standards.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and post daily cash entries, including A/R, payments, and deposits for multiple bank accounts.
  • Reconcile daily cash activity and assist with bank statement reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations for operating, trust, and IOLTA accounts.
  • Maintain and update general ledger records; assist with account reconciliations and financial data analysis.
  • Support the month-end close process and assist with financial reporting.
  • Assist with accounts payable processing, including journal entries and accruals.
  • Receive, review, code, and process vendor invoices; match supporting documentation and allocate expenses by department and state.
  • Prepare and process weekly check runs and ACH payments; distribute checks and manage accounts payable mail.
  • Review and reconcile corporate credit card transactions; follow up on discrepancies as needed.
  • Review employee expense reports for compliance with company policies.
  • Prepare weekly AP reports, assist with cash flow tracking, and compile ad hoc expense reports for management.
  • Assist in preparing management reports and supporting schedules.
  • Support budget tracking by compiling data and assisting with budget-to-actual variance reports.
  • Coordinate with third-party electronic vendors to support accounting operations.
  • Assist with year-end activities, including 1099 preparation.
  • Crosstrain with other departments to provide backup support and ensure continuity of operations.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of accounting experience.
  • Understanding of accounting basics.
  • Possess the highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail in a dynamic, multitasking environment.
  • Must possess the organizational skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively and handle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude.
  • Must be very computer savvy to work in multiple service systems.
  • Knowledge of case management systems is helpful; CaseAware is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Dynamics accounting system is preferred.
  • Highly proficient in MS Excel and use of spreadsheets
  • Skilled in MS Word and Outlook.
