Job description

General Summary:

Performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but no proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry and electrical work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance and repair of hospital facilities, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections of equipment and systems to identify and resolve issues proactively.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repair situations.
  • Maintain hospital grounds, including minor landscaping, exterior upkeep, and snow removal.
  • Assist in installation, relocation, and assembly of equipment and furniture.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, infection control standards, and government contract requirements.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in accordance with contract and hospital policies.
  • Support preventive maintenance programs for critical systems (e.g., generators, life safety systems).
  • Handle hazardous materials and waste according to regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to minimize disruption to patient care.

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • GED or High School Graduate.
  • Experience working in an outdoor or indoor building environment.
  • Able to understand verbal or written direction from lead, supervisor or other craftsmen.

Work Environment:

  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.
