Job description

HVAC ApprenticeJOB STATUS: OPEN POSTING DATE: 08/17/2026 POSTING NUMBER: 054910 LOCATION: Maintenance Department - 930 POSITION TITLE: HVAC Apprentice
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assist HVAC technician to maintain, repair, and install HVAC systems, and equipment for the District. Assist HVAC technician in maintaining and providing for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in District facilities.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Help or assist HVAC technician in daily tasks as directed by the technician or HVAC Supervisor.
  2. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
  3. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
  4. Follow established chain of command procedures.
  5. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.
  6. Keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
  7. Inspect tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
  8. Maintain inventory of District-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
  9. Respond to emergency calls as needed and be on-call/stand-by as assigned by supervisor.
  10. Maintain confidentiality.
  11. Regular attendance.
  12. Follow all District rules regulations and policies.
  13. Other duties assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Type Universal Certification per the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Federal Clean Air Action Section-608 (within 90 days of hire)

Special Knowledge or Skills:
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Some knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools
  • Willing attitude and ability to learn

Mental Demands/ Physical Demands/ Environmental Factors: Continual walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching. Working intiring and uncomfortable positions around equipment with high speed moving parts. Ability to lift 50 pounds above head. Working in and around equipment panels with high voltage electrical connections. Working with or around high-pressure refrigerants, gas and air lines. Working with or around equipment where combustion of flammable gasses are present. Exposure to dampness, excessive noises, gas lines, extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, toxic and or corrosive chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline and diesel fuel. Frequent District wide travel.
