Burrtec is a well-established refuse and recycling collection company serving over fifteen municipalities throughout Southern California and employing over 1,400 full-time employees. We are looking for Senior Heavy Duty Mechanic at our Santa Clarita Hauling Division

SALARY RANGE: $38.15 - $39.15

+ $3000.00 Hiring Bonus *

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Will perform major and minor engine repairs and accessories
  • Will respond to road call and perform other duties as assigned by supervisor 
  • Diagnoses/rebuild/repair vehicles and equipment. 
  • Performs detailed inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, remove and repair engines.
  • Remove and replace transmissions and brakes.
  • Repair, mount and dismount tires.
  • Repair and replace hydraulic hoses.
  • Remove and replace breaks
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports. 
  • Must follow all safety procedures and policies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Methods, materials, tools and techniques used in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance. 
  • Diagnosing mechanical problems and performing repairs. Safety practices and procedures. 
  • Working knowledge of: 
    1.  Mechanical design and fabrication. 
    2.  Electrical systems, including computerized induction/ignition systems. 
  • Skill in: 
    1. Use of power and hand tools. 
    2. Use of diagnostic equipment. 
    3. Acetylene and electric arc welding. 
    4. Operation of vehicles and equipment for diagnostic purposes.
  • Ability to: 
    1. Work varying shifts, weekends and holidays. 
    2. Diagnose problems and make repairs in the field. 
    3. Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 75 pounds. 
    4. Work extended hours outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. 
    5. Prepare and maintain records and reports. 
    6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public. 
    7. Follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers’ service specifications. 
    8. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years exp. on heavy duty diesel and gasoline truck repair.
  • Valid California Driver's License and a clean driving record, required

PHYSICAL:

  • Must be able to lift and pull 75 lbs.
  • Physical demands include bending, lifting, reaching, climbing, and standing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Will be exposed to outdoor weather heat, cold, rain, wind.
  • Will be exposed to moderate levels of noise and dust.
  • Will be exposed to working on slippery conditions and cramped positions.
  • Work is performed around, vibrations, moving objects, noise, dirt, dust, chemicals, fuels including diesel, gasoline, and various natural gases.
