Job description

Student and Community Engagement Specialist

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Student and Community Engagement Specialist is based in Duncan, Oklahoma and is responsible for engagement with the Duncan area community and prospective students within the university's primary service area.  The position is also responsible for student engagement activities for the current campus population. This is an entry-level position that reports to the Director of the Duncan Campus.

Student Engagement Responsibilities:

  •  Develop and implement student engagement opportunities that enhance campus life and support student connection and retention. 
  • Collaborate with campus faculty, staff, and student groups to develop programming that supports student success, belonging, and co-curricular learning.
  • Assist with the promotion of student activities through text, email, digital signage, and social media to encourage participation and awareness.
  • Maintain a flexible and creative approach to programming, adapting activities to fit the scale and resources of a small campus environment.

Community Engagement Responsibilities:

  • Represent Cameron University through proactive community engagement, including high school visits, presentations, and on- and off-campus events to build awareness and interest in CU Duncan.
  • Guide prospective students and their families through the full enrollment process, including admissions applications, Oklahoma's Promise, FAFSA, and other pre-college requirements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with area high schools, technical centers, businesses, and community partners to support college readiness and strengthen recruitment pipelines.
  • Provide personalized support to prospective students by assessing needs, identifying educational goals, and assisting with program selection, financial planning, and pathways to degree completion.
  • Conduct outreach (calls, email, social media) on behalf of CU Duncan, and maintain accurate records in the student information system.
  • Communicate consistently with prospective students through multiple channels, addressing inquiries, providing guidance, and connecting them with campus resources to support enrollment and matriculation.
  • Evaluate and process admissions records while ensuring accurate data entry and maintenance within institutional systems.

Other Duties:

  • Serves as backup in the Duncan Testing Center and Administrative Office
  • Assists the Duncan campus Director with various special projects
  • Performs and assists with other related duties as assigned

 Required Knowledge Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking and presentations.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to build rapport quickly and work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations, including prospective students and community partners.
  • Proficiency with standard office and digital tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite) and comfort working in electronic environments, including CRM systems, virtual communication, and social media.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, including occasional travel for recruitment activities.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with events and outreach, including lifting 10-20 lbs and standing or walking for extended periods. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. An earned bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university
  2. Minimum of two years responsible employment
  3. Valid Driver's License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

4.     Experience in recruitment or student engagement

5.     Experience in event planning and promotion

6.     Experience working with Slate, Navigate, and/or Banner

Salary: 29,500
