Description
This is the entry level laborer position within the Golf Department requiring manual labor and general duty work in the development, maintenance and construction of golf course facilities.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF CLASS:
This is routine work involving the use of skills acquired by experience or on-the-job instruction. The work often requires more than the usual physical strength and endurance. Incumbents work under the supervision of the Golf Lead and/or Superintendent who issues oral work orders and inspects work frequently.
Essential Functions
(Performance of these functions is the reason the job exists. Assigned job tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions).
Operates power mowers, push mowers, tractors, light trucks, skip loaders and other power equipment used in maintenance and development of golf course facility. Assists in propagation of turf and plants from seed and cuttings. Digs trenches and lays pipe, repairs lines, hauls dirt and gravel, rakes and picks up litter; keeps all restrooms neat and clean; paints, stains, assists in construction of buildings, signs, benches and equipment. Performs general maintenance on equipment, greasing, washing, and sharpening of mower blades. Operates spray equipment in controlling plant pests and diseases. Plants and irrigates new turf areas and landscape areas. Maintains tools and equipment of the department. May supervise work of part-time helpers as necessary. Performs related work as required by the Golf Lead or Superintendent.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (KSAs are the attributes required to perform a job; generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or training).

  • Methods, techniques and tools used in golf course maintenance
  • Characteristics of and control techniques used on turf and diseases
Skill and Ability to:
  • Operate the various equipment necessary for this type of work
  • Perform necessary maintenance without close supervision
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities is:
Sufficient formal education to be able to read and follow instructions and do simple calculations, and some experience in turf and irrigation maintenance.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must hold valid State of Nevada drivers license.
