Job description

Description
Middlebury College's Summer German School is pleased to announce a vacancy for an appointment as a temporary Instructor of German. The position is available during the summer 2022 session (late June - mid August 2021), and we anticipate our program to operate on our Vermont campus in Middlebury (however we will follow the scientists' guidance on running our program safely). Designated as an AATG German Center of Excellence in 2013, Middlebury's German School and its unique 7-week program combine a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. This is an opportunity to join a community of learners by actively engaging in teaching, dining, residing and recreational activities with students while reading, writing and speaking exclusively in German
In addition to the salary, lodging and a complete meal plan will be provided. Insurance is available.
Qualifications
We are looking for a faculty member with the following qualifications: Ph.D. in German Studies or German Applied Linguistics/Second Language Acquisition in hand by June 2022; native or near-native proficiency in German language; formal training in second language pedagogy and teaching; demonstrated excellence in teaching German language and culture at all levels; at least two years of experience teaching at an institution of higher education in the United States; experience in teaching students of diverse learning backgrounds. ABDs will be considered under certain circumstances. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, dynamic and confident teacher with a true commitment to student learning.
Application Instructions
Candidates should submit: letter of interest, CV, recent statistical information from student evaluations, a short teaching demo (video, please upload to Vimeo, youtube etc. and provide URL if the file exceeds 100 MB), and at least one letter of recommendation that must speak to the applicant's abilities as a teacher of German. Only complete applications, submitted via Interfolio, will be considered.
Please address your application to: Prof. Bettina Matthias, Director, Middlebury German Summer Language School.
Application deadline is December 3rd, 2021 but position will be open until filled. This position is for summer 2022 only.
