Position Title:                   Geographic Information Systems, Technology & Engineer Fellow
Hourly Rate:                    $19.00 (Undergraduate)
 
All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location.
 
 
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:
The GIS (Geographic Information System) team is part of the MTA IT department managing central mapping and spatial analytics unit, utilizing software, data, and hardware to manage infrastructure, plan projects, and improve safety. We maintain critical data layers, perform network analysis, visualize complex datasets for decision-making, support operations, transit planning, and emergency response, and maintain the GIS infrastructure for the MTA.
 
The fellow will be responsible for spatial analysis, cartography, and data management within ArcGIS Pro. Candidate will create, edit, and maintain geospatial data and publish web layers to ArcGIS Online or Enterprise. This position begins in Fall 2026; candidates should be ready to commit minimum of 12โ€‘months in the role.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Content Promotion.
  • Python Scripting.
  • Monitoring of the Argis Environment.
  • Develop web maps.
  • Working with ESRI on Trouble shooting environment and development.
  • Documenting and collaborating with Team on GIS tasks.
  • Governance documentation and implementation.
  • Arcgis map Development. 
PROJECTS:
The MTA has several projects that are in various stages of development.  The fellow will offer assistance will help move these projects along and help deliver for the agencies we support. Three projects currently being developed are:
  • GIS โ€“ content promotion.
  • Weather Emergency management.
  • GIS GeoAnalytics.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills. 
  • The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA.
  • Major(s) Preferred: Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems, or related field.
