Job description

Clinical Services Technician / Phlebotomist

Position Summary

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Clinical Services Technician / Phlebotomist to support specimen collection and laboratory operations. This position is responsible for collecting and processing patient specimens, verifying patient and specimen identification, and ensuring specimens are properly prepared and delivered to the appropriate laboratory departments.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast-paced laboratory environment, and providing a positive experience for patients while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen collection, including phlebotomy, across assigned patient populations.

  • Verify patient identification and ensure proper specimen labeling and documentation.

  • Receive, process, prepare, and distribute laboratory specimens according to established procedures.

  • Review laboratory orders for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate specimen requirements.

  • Accurately enter and update patient and specimen information in laboratory computer systems.

  • Prioritize specimen processing to support efficient laboratory workflow and turnaround times.

  • Deliver specimens to the appropriate laboratory sections within established timeframes.

  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and quality control procedures as assigned.

  • Identify and troubleshoot specimen, equipment, or workflow issues and escalate concerns when appropriate.

  • Maintain adequate supplies and ensure work areas are clean, organized, and properly stocked.

  • Follow all laboratory, safety, infection-control, and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide courteous and professional support to patients, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Current phlebotomy certification or state-required phlebotomy license.

  • At least 1 year of clinical phlebotomy experience.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to specimen integrity.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a laboratory environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with specimen processing or laboratory information systems.

  • Experience working in a hospital, reference laboratory, or other clinical laboratory setting.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Evening Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM

  • Schedule: Every other Monday and Friday

  • Pay: $20.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
