Maintenance Technician
Job Description:
As a critical member of our Facilities Team, the Maintenance Technician will support daily operations of Net Zero Energy (NZE) commercial buildings. This entry-level role focuses on performing basic repairs, preventive maintenance, inspections, and general upkeep to ensure safe and efficient facilities. The Technician will follow standardized processes, support team operations, and maintain organized, accurate work through strong attention to detail and communication.
RESPONSIBILITIES
FUNTIONAL
  • Conducts regular facility inspections, preventive maintenance checks, and reports unsafe or malfunctioning conditions.
  • Assists in troubleshooting and repairing building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, machinery, roofs, drains, and kitchen equipment.
  • Services and maintains pumps, valves, electrical/mechanical components, and hydraulic devices.
  • Performs routine maintenance, including minor repairs on fixtures, lighting, doors, hardware, and common areas.
  • Assists in maintaining fire and life safety systems, including alarms, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Administers routine tasks and escalates complex issues.
  • Works under direct supervisor who provides instructions for assigned tasks.

TECHNICALthe
  • Documents completed work, updates maintenance records, and uses smart building technologies and building automation systems to complete work orders.
  • Understands fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures within a department.
  • Has familiarity with or ability to learn department/project-specific software systems.

QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 0-2 years of related work experience preferred.
  • Technical or vocational training in at least one trade (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.) preferred
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, diagrams, and basic schematics
  • Ability to operate tools, test instruments, and diagnostic devices used in mechanical and HVAC trades.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Routinely required to bend, reach, climb, and maintain awkward positions for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. independently.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, staging, lifts and work safely at various heights.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and in physically demanding positions (kneeling, stooping, crouching).
  • Frequent walking around the building, often while carrying tools and equipment.
  • Must rely on sight, hearing, and smell for detection of mechanical issues and safety hazards.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions.

In accordance with Virginia Senate Bill 215 (SB 215), the base salary range for this position is:
$25.00 - $32.00
Compensation in other cities and states may vary. HITT Contracting offers a competitive total benefits and compensation package including performance-based bonuses, premium health care coverage including vision and dental, employer-matched 401(k), wellness reimbursement program, paid holidays and time-off, and other voluntary benefits and leave types. The determination of salary is based on the candidate's individual professional experience, qualifications, education, skills, and training.
