About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Plant Operations, the Plant Operator is responsible for safely, efficiently, and effectively operating an assigned plant area or unit while collaborating as part of the operations team. The role includes monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting area-specific equipment to optimize performance and achieve production targets in accordance with Cenovus standards. The Plant Operator also supports on-site maintenance contractors by ensuring compliance with Cenovus policies, procedures, and safety requirements, while demonstrating a strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.

Work Environment:

Rainbow Lake

  • This is a full-time employee position based in Rainbow Lake working 14 days on14 daysoff days/nights shift rotation.

  • The successful candidate mustresidein Rainbow Lake while on shift.

  • Please note, this is not a camp role and not a fly-in/fly-out position.

  • While on rotation in Rainbow Lake, you will stay in company-provided housing. Please note that meals are not included and will be your responsibility.

  • The successful candidate will need to commute to and from the community for each rotationorresidein Rainbow Lake.

What you'll do:

  • Safely and efficiently operate an assigned plant area or unit while collaborating with the operations team under the guidance of the Lead Plant Operator (Shift Engineer).

  • Monitor, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot area-specific equipment to optimize performance and achieve production targets in accordance with Cenovus standards.

  • Issue work requests, safe work permits, and perform equipment isolations (LOTO) to support safe and effective maintenance activities.

  • Perform process and equipment condition monitoring, including sampling, testing, and analysis, while maintaining accurate operational records such as routine readings, log sheets, reports, P&ID updates, and car seal audits.

  • Support operations-driven maintenance activities and coordinate with on-site maintenance contractors, ensuring compliance with Cenovus policies, procedures, and safety requirements.

  • Develop technical competency by progressing through Operator qualification levels and obtaining required Power Engineering certification. Provide coaching, on-the-job training, and support to new operators as required.

  • Participate in the development, review, and continuous improvement of Safe Operating Procedures while adhering to safe operating and chemical handling practices.

  • Promote a strong safety culture by reporting hazards, near misses, and incidents, and participating in hazard assessments, safety meetings, and incident investigations.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Minimum Fourth-Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency required.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating a steam plant, including associated processes and systems.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Oil and Gas Plant Operator in an industrial operating environment.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience performing equipment isolations (LOTO), issuing safe work permits, and preparing equipment for maintenance activities.

We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
