Entry Level Gas Engineer Jobs in Indiana (NOW HIRING)

Position Summary

Fuller Engineering is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Special Hazards Inspection Technician to join our fire suppression service team. This is an entry-level position ideal for someone who is mechanically and electrically inclined, dependable, and eager to build a career in the life-safety industry. No prior special hazards experience is required — we provide hands-on training and support for industry certifications.

In this role, you will travel to commercial, industrial, and mission-critical facilities (such as data centers, telecom rooms, and control rooms) to inspect, test, and maintain special hazards fire suppression systems — including clean agent systems (FM-200, FE-25, Novec 1230, inert gas such as Inergen and Argonite, and CO2) and preaction detection and release systems. Your work ensures these systems are code-compliant and ready to protect people and property.

Key Responsibilities

•    Perform scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and functional testing on special hazards fire suppression systems — including clean agent and preaction detection/release systems — in accordance with NFPA 2001, NFPA 72, NFPA 12, NFPA 750, and manufacturer requirements.

•    Inspect and test system components including agent storage cylinders, discharge nozzles, piping, releasing and control panels, detection devices, manual releases, abort stations, and alarm/notification appliances.

•    Verify agent cylinder weights and pressures; check for leaks, corrosion, physical damage, and proper mounting.

•    Test detection and releasing control panels, batteries, supervisory circuits, and interfaces with building fire alarm and HVAC/damper systems.

•    Verify proper integration of suppression systems with building systems such as HVAC shutdown, door releases, power disconnects, and monitoring/central-station signaling.

•    Document inspection findings accurately, note deficiencies, and complete inspection reports and service tickets in the field.

•    Communicate professionally with customers on-site, explaining work performed and any issues discovered.

•    Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and manufacturer guidelines when working around pressurized systems and energized equipment.

•    Maintain company vehicle, tools, and test equipment in clean, working order.

•    Assist senior technicians with system repairs, recharges, panel programming, and installations as directed.

•    Escalate significant deficiencies or code issues to the Service Manager promptly.

Required Qualifications

•    High school diploma or GED.

•    Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (required — position involves regular travel to customer sites in a company vehicle).

•    Mechanically inclined with the ability to use hand tools and basic test equipment.

•    Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow procedures precisely — accuracy is critical in life-safety work.

•    Good verbal and written communication skills for customer interaction and report writing.

•    Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently once trained.

•    Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

•    Willingness to learn and pursue industry certifications (company-supported).

Preferred (Not Required)

•    Prior experience in fire protection, fire alarm, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, or a related skilled trade.

•    Familiarity with NFPA codes and standards.

•    Progress toward or interest in NICET certification (Special Hazards / Fire Alarm Systems).

•    Manufacturer training or certification (Fike, Kidde, Fenwal, Ansul, Janus, Xtralis, or similar special hazards / fire alarm systems).

•    Basic electrical or low-voltage systems knowledge; interest in panel programming.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

•    Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and occasionally handle heavier cylinders with assistance.

•    Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in tight spaces such as ceilings, raised floors, and equipment rooms.

•    Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and reach for extended periods.

•    Willingness to travel regionally, with occasional overnight travel and after-hours or emergency service as needed.

•    Work is performed indoors and outdoors across a variety of commercial and industrial settings.
