What is an Entry Level Full Stack Software Engineer?

An Entry Level Full Stack Software Engineer is a developer who works on both the front-end (client side) and back-end (server side) of web applications, typically at the beginning of their career. They are usually familiar with basic programming languages such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS for the front end, and may use languages like Python, Java, or Node.js for the back end. These engineers often work under the guidance of more experienced team members, helping to build, test, and maintain software solutions. Their role provides broad exposure to multiple technologies, making it a strong foundation for a software engineering career.

What types of projects and technologies can an Entry Level Full Stack Software Engineer expect to work with during their first year?

As an Entry Level Full Stack Software Engineer, you'll likely work on a range of web application projects involving both front-end and back-end development. Common technologies include JavaScript frameworks like React or Angular for the front end, and Node.js, Python, or Java for the back end, along with databases such as MySQL or MongoDB. You'll collaborate closely with designers, senior developers, and QA engineers, often participating in agile sprints and code reviews. This exposure helps you quickly build practical skills and gain insight into the full development lifecycle, laying a strong foundation for career growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Full Stack Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as an Entry Level Full Stack Software Engineer, you need a solid grasp of programming languages (such as JavaScript, Python, or Java), web development frameworks, and a relevant degree or equivalent coding experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, databases (SQL/NoSQL), and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is commonly expected. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and a willingness to learn new technologies set top performers apart. These abilities are crucial for building scalable applications, collaborating with diverse teams, and adapting to rapidly evolving technical requirements.

What is the difference between Entry Level Full Stack Software Engineer vs Junior Web Developer?

The Boeing Company

The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Software Engineer-Developer to support our Daybreak team located in Kent, Washington. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization.

Join us to build the brain of a mission-critical radar processing ecosystem - the orchestrator that turns tasking inputs into timely, reliable products for customers across industry and defense partners. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where your designs, decisions, and code directly shape how our fleet of applications coordinates, scales, and recovers under pressure.

You will work at the intersection of real-time systems, cloud-native engineering, and partner integrations. Your work will be visible, mission-critical, and continually evolving - we move fast, adopt new tech, and count on nimble engineers to make big things reliable. If you thrive on ownership, complexity, and impact, this is the place to shine.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate and Experienced Level Software Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain cloud-native and real-time orchestration components that coordinate radar processing workflows and downstream products.

  • Manage multipleC++and mixed-language code repositories, implement build/test pipelines, and maintain cross-platform compatibility and CI validation.

  • Implement automated regression tests and validation suites, and ensure repeatable, auditable release processes.

  • Integrate partner systems and simulation inputs (e.g., supply chain / transport simulations) to increase system fidelity and analytics.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex multi-environment bugs to increase reliability across Windows, Linux, and macOS.

  • Work with product and systems teams to harden software for operational and mission environments; contribute to threat modeling and secure design reviews.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Strong DevSecOps experience across the software lifecycle: CI/CD pipeline design and operation, automated testing, and secure release processes.

  • Proficient inC++development and familiar with managing multiple repositories, branching strategies, and PR validation.

  • Strong analytical background; Masters level training in physics or equivalent research experience is highly valued and a plus for systems-level reasoning and complex problem solving.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • Level 2: 1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Level 3: 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 1+ years' experience in Python/C++ programming on full stack software projects/programs

  • Experience with AWS, AWS Lambdas, Docker, Kubernetes
