Overview

The Full Stack Software Developer will be responsible for providing professional software development services to support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of web applications and supporting backend services. The objective of this role is to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable software solutions that support internal workflows, analytical pipelines, and reporting capabilities. The engineer will play a critical role in the continuous delivery of working software through iterative development cycles, operating strictly within a trunk-based development workflow. The role requires deep expertise across the full application stack, targeting AWS cloud infrastructure, and active contribution to ongoing sprint cycles in close coordination with internal engineering teams.

Responsibilities
  • Application Development and Feature Delivery: Design, develop, test, and deploy new features and enhancements across front-end (ReactJS) and back-end (Python/FastAPI) layers of enterprise applications.
  • API Engineering: Build and maintain RESTful APIs using FastAPI, ensuring proper validation, error handling, versioning, and documentation (e.g., OpenAPI/Swagger).
  • Front-End Development: Develop responsive, accessible front-end interfaces using ReactJS, adhering to UX standards and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Database Management: Implement and manage data models, queries, migrations, and stored procedures within PostgreSQL databases, with strict attention to performance and data integrity.
  • Trunk-Based Development and Collaboration: Operate within a trunk-based development workflow, committing small, incremental changes frequently to the main branch to reduce integration risk. Participate in mandatory peer code reviews and utilize short-lived feature branches and feature flags.
  • Containerization and Cloud Deployment: Package applications and services using Docker, maintaining clean and reproducible container images. Support deployment of containerized workloads to AWS environments (e.g., ECS, EKS) utilizing AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and IAM.
  • Testing and Quality Assurance: Write and maintain automated unit, integration, and regression tests for back-end (pytest or equivalent) and front-end (Jest, React Testing Library) code. Ensure features meet appropriate test coverage prior to merge.
  • Maintenance and Technical Debt Reduction: Investigate, diagnose, and resolve application defects, performance issues, and security vulnerabilities. Proactively identify and address technical debt by refactoring code.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date technical documentation for developed systems, including API documentation, data model diagrams, architecture decision records (ADRs), and developer setup guides.
Qualifications
  • Clearance & Background: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Tier 2 clearance. Must successfully pass an FBI criminal check and fingerprinting conducted by the U.S. Capitol Police.
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is preferred.

 

Experience & Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the core technology stack: Python, FastAPI, ReactJS, PostgreSQL, and Docker.
  • Sufficient familiarity with AWS cloud services to deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot applications in cloud-hosted environments.
  • Strong knowledge of automated testing frameworks, Agile/Scrum sprint cycles, and secure coding practices aligned with NIST SP 800-53 and FISMA.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipeline concepts and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tooling (e.g., Terraform, GitHub Actions) is highly desired.
