Job Summary:

Finlays USA is looking for an Analytical Technologist based in Finlay’s global Analytical and Research Center located in North Kingstown, RI. Finlays offers a multicultural working environment and enjoyable work culture. We are looking for an individual that performs all duties in accordance with Finlay’s mission, business philosophy, ethics, and goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform essential laboratory analytical testing and assist with basic research, including but not limited to LC/MS analysis, HPLC analysis, GC/MS analysis, and physical analysis (training will be provided)
  • Follow written SOPs and SDSs to ensure data integrity and staff safety and clearly and promptly communicate any deviations to Sr. Scientist
  • Maintain a clean, organized work environment and perform routine calibration for laboratory equipment
  • Maintain digital sample queue, ensure proper sample storage, and transfer samples to retain storage once completed
  • Maintain adequate record keeping through personal lab notebook and provide Sr. Scientist with copies of analog data as needed
  • Notify Sr. Scientist of low-stock lab consumable items promptly to prevent interruptions in analysis capabilities
  • Perform essential laboratory analytical testing following established SOPs
  • Notify Sr. Scientist to any deviations from SOPs
  • Assist with basic research regarding tea, coffee, and botanical products
  • Keep the lab environment clean and calibrate laboratory equipment
  • Provide feedback to Sr. Scientist for continuous improvement of safety, data quality, throughput, and operator efficiency
  • Assist maintaining stock of consumable items


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Understanding of basic food science/chemistry
  • Good understanding of various testing and calibration protocols
  • Good critical thinking skills
  • Preferred to have food laboratory experience (especially research and development)
  • Preferred to have knowledge of analytical techniques such as titration, chromatography, distillation, spectroscopy (etc.)
  • BS in Food Science, Chemistry or related field preferred
  • 0~2 years of food industry experience (Entry level position)

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work beyond regularly scheduled hours during peak periods or critical operations
  • Must possess adequate vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills to meet essential job performance and safety standards.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly perform physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, and using hands for detailed tasks
  • Physically capable of performing tasks such as lifting, climbing, and using hand and power tools, including pallet jacks, scales, ladders, and standard material handling and cleaning equipment
  • Capable of safely lifting up to 50 pounds frequently throughout the day; ability to handle heavier items with proper lifting equipment or team-assisted techniques to ensure safety

  • Handling of some hazardous chemicals


Work Environment

Employees must be able to work in a dynamic manufacturing environment that may include exposure to odors, dust, moderate noise levels, and fluctuations in temperature and ventilation. Work environment may involve exposure to inclement weather. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times, which may include but is not limited to: safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, gloves, hairnets, uniforms, and face shields, as required by specific job duties and safety protocols.
