THIS IS AN ENTRY LEVEL POSITION


Laboratory Technician I plays a key role in supporting daily laboratory operations by ensuring the lab remains clean, organized, and well-stocked. Responsibilities include washing jars, glassware, and laboratory equipment; cleaning and maintaining work areas; stocking laboratory supplies; assisting with sample and material preparation; managing inventory; and supporting the Formulation Chemist, Research Chemist and Senior Laboratory Technician with routine laboratory tasks. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, eager to learn, and committed to maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include (not in any priority):

  • Assist research personnel in the development of fire safety products
  • Perform laboratory tests in accordance with established written procedures
  • Accurately document and report all test results and observations; support the team as needed
  • Maintain a safe laboratory environment, including cleaning and routine maintenance of lab facilities and equipment
  • Clean up laboratory spills and properly dispose of samples, raw materials, and chemicals in compliance with safety and environmental regulations
  • Perform required safety inspections and checks
  • Receive, inspect, organize, and uniquely identify incoming test samples
  • Maintain laboratory instruments to ensure they are in good working condition and properly calibrated
  • Prepare solutions, including corrosion acids, as assigned
  • Maintain and manage laboratory supply inventories
  • Order laboratory supplies while ensuring cost efficiency
  • Ensure all lab supplies and standards are fully stocked and readily available
  • Log samples in and out of shipper books, ensuring Certificates of Analysis (CoA) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are included
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Must be able to travel as required


Requirements:

Required Qualification, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experienced in laboratory work, with a minimum of one year in academic or industrial settings
  • Familiar with laboratory techniques
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with good judgment and the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Dynamic and fast-paced laboratory environment with evolving priorities
  • Work may involve exposure to dust, chemicals, and raw materials in a controlled setting
  • Flexibility is important, as tasks and priorities may shift based on project needs
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed
  • Role includes standing, walking, and handling laboratory equipment and materials throughout the day
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas
