Job description

Position Title: Museum Guest Experience Specialist (Entry-Level)

Department: Museums

Location: The Sixth Street Museum District (https://sixthstreetmuseumdistrict.com)

Reports To: Operations and Visitor Engagement Manager

Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt Hours: 20-25 hours a week Generally Wednesday – Saturday, Shift will vary between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; some nights, weekends, and holidays will be required. Maximum of 29 hours per week.

Position Summary

The Guest Experience Specialist serves as the welcoming face of the Sixth Street Museum District and its attractions. This position plays a key role in daily museum operations, including greeting visitors, processing admissions and gift shop sales, leading tours, assisting with events, and maintaining visitor records. The ideal candidate is friendly, enthusiastic, dependable, passionate about history about engaging diverse audiences in support of the district’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

· Greet and assist visitors, providing information about exhibits, programs, and events.

· Answer and direct phone calls and provide accurate visitor information.

· Open and close the museum following established procedures, ensuring security and readiness for visitors.

· Lead guided tours for visitors of all ages.

· Support special events and programs, including planning, setup, execution, breakdown and visitor assistance.

· Operate the point-of-sale system for admissions and gift shop transactions.

· Collect visitor information and attendance data.

· Assist with maintaining clean, organized, and welcoming public spaces.

· Collaborate with museum staff to ensure a seamless visitor experience.

· Perform other duties as assigned to support museum operations.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Excellent organizational and time management abilities.

· Self-starter with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

· Basic computer and office skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

· Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and diverse visitor groups.

· Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and special events as needed.

· Prior customer service or museum/visitor services experience preferred, but not required.

Physical Requirements

· Move throughout museum spaces.

· Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. for event or exhibit setup.
