Job description

Groundwater & Environmental Services, Inc. (GES), an industry leader with a reputation for excellence in providing environmental consulting, engineering, compliance, and technical field services to clients in diverse market sectors, seeks an entry level Environmental Scientist or Geologist to support fieldwork and environmental remediation project activities throughout the New England area out of our Westford, Massachusetts office. We are seeking an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist/Geologist that will play a crucial role in supporting our environmental assessment and remediation projects. This position involves conducting fieldwork, collecting environmental media samples (groundwater, surface water, soil, sediment and/or air), and analyzing data to evaluate environmental conditions and impacts. The successful candidate will collaborate with senior scientists, licensed Professional Geologists, and Licensed Site Professionals to develop strategies for environmental protection and compliance. This role will contribute to the preparation of technical reports for local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to convey findings for our diverse mix of clients and stakeholders. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that our projects meet the highest quality regulatory standards, while promoting safe and sustainable practices.


Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field investigations and collect soil, water, and/or air samples for laboratory analysis
  • Utilizing field sampling and monitoring equipment to ensure field samples are being obtained under stringent quality standards
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental assessment reports and regulatory compliance reports
  • Analyze laboratory and field monitoring data using various software tools and methodologies
  • Support senior staff and licensed professionals in developing remediation plans and environmental management strategies
  • Working directly under a Project Manager, participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning and execution
  • Using field water level data to develop hydrographs and groundwater contour maps/flow nets
  • Participate in the identification of viable remedial solutions consistent with all Federal, state, and local regulations
  • Participate in the completion of well canvasses, well searches and sensitive receptor evaluations
  • Participates in the coordination and scheduling of field events
  • Performs supervisory oversight of subcontractors during field events

  • Strong analytical abilities, utilized in interpreting data collected from fieldwork and laboratory analyses
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to prepare reports and present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Attention to detail and legible field note taking, critical when conducting field investigations and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations
  • A combination of technical knowledge and practical skills to thrive in a collaborative and dynamic work environment


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science, geology, or other related earth sciences
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic understanding of environmental consulting industry


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 40 HR OSHA HAZWOPER Training
  • Internship or relevant work experience in environmental consulting
  • Familiarity with GIS software and data analysis tools
  • Certification or coursework in environmental assessment or remediation
  • Soil and groundwater sampling experience
