Job Description

AECOM is looking for a Mid-Level Environmental Scientist to grow their career – where we’ll empower you to learn in the delivery of environmental site characterization and remediation projects for the federal government.

Based in Arlington, VA, you’ll learn from other experienced staff who are ready to mentor you, and you’ll pass your knowledge on to others. You’ll gain valuable experience in the field and office. Field work will include soil and groundwater sampling, drilling, and the office work includes evaluating and reviewing data, writing reports and preparing project documents, and coordinating logistics for field activities.

  • Performs standard scientific work requiring application of techniques and procedures.
  • Detects problems when using standardized procedures because of the condition of sample, difficulties with the equipment, etc.
  • Conducts specific phases of projects for more experienced scientists.
  • Proposes appropriate analytical methods and techniques. Assists in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge.
  • Draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on analysis.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Works under general supervision

The ideal candidate must be able to work effectively both as an individual and within a collaborative team-environment. They must be able to demonstrate effective and timely communication skills especially during field work. The flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. For the right candidate, this position holds significant potential to learn leadership and management skills that offer growth opportunities within AECOM.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science
    • 2+ years of post-graduation relevant experience in environmental consulting (i.e., Remedial Investigations and Site Assessments) for Federal, State, or private clients. e or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
    • Valid U.S. driver’s license required.  Subject to a motor vehicle records check.  
    • Successful candidate will have to pass a background check.  
    • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship is required.  Sponsorship will not be available at this time or in the future.  

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Has general experience of geologic and environmental concepts (e.g., stratigraphy, geological processes, hydrogeology, hydrology, etc.).
    • Ability and desire to travel periodically for weeks- to months-long project assignments.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to document.
    • Safety-minded individual with the desire to implement safe working practices and be an active participant in safety kick-off calls and daily “tailgate” safety briefings.
    • Experience with basic Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner.
    • GIS data management with demonstrated experience using ArcGIS Pro and PowerBI.
    • Demonstrated experience visualizing project objectives developing project figures and tables.
    • Demonstrated experience utilizing statistics for figure development and data management.
    • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification
    • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and safely drive a full-size pickup truck.
    • Tolerance for work in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions.
