Job Description

Environmental Scientist/Engineer (Contaminated Sites) for an entry-level position involved in the assessment, management, and remediation of contaminated soil, groundwater, and sediment sites. This role applies established engineering and environmental science principles to evaluate site conditions, develop remediation strategies, and ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations. The position works under general supervision while independently managing defined project components and supporting senior engineers on complex assignments.

Site Assessment & Investigation 

  • Groundwater Monitoring – purging and sample collection from monitoring wells
  • Drilling – environmental drilling, ground disturbance procedures, soil description and monitoring well installation
  • Soil sampling – field screening, soil sample collection procedures
  • Field notes – taking organized and details field notes, recording observations
  • Safety – leading and participating in field meetings, oversight of subcontractors, contribute to and following safe work practices, developing/following/implementing safety plans and a day to day basis, recognizing hazards, confidence in exercising stop work authority.
  • Strong team work, able to listen to requirements and work well with others
  • Excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Flexible and hard working
  • Able to work outdoors, often in inclement weather conditions, physically able to walk long distances in rugged terrain and carry up to 44 lbs of equipment
  • Other activities may include assisting with calculations, setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications, and maintaining proper project documentation.
  • Collects and enters data and applies technical principles and theories under supervision.

Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) 

  • Adhere to and promote health and safety protocols in the office and field. 
  • Identify and mitigate environmental and occupational hazards. 
  • Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions as needed. 
    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental related discipline. 

    Preferred Qualifications:

    2 years of experience in contaminated sites assessment and remediation. 

    Certifications (Preferred) 

    • Geologist/Engineer-in-Training (GIT/EIT) or eligible.

    Technical Skills 

    • Understanding of soil and groundwater contamination processes. 
    • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., BC CSR, AEPA/AER Regs, CCME guidelines, or equivalent across Western Canada).

    Core Competencies 

    • Analytical thinking and problem-solving 
    • Strong technical writing and documentation 
    • Project coordination and time management 
    • Effective communication with team members, clients and regulators 
    • Attention to detail and quality assurance 

    Work Location 

    • Hybrid model when in the office
    • Travel required for site visits and project oversight. 
    • Willing to travel within the province/country for work, including extended travel
    • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license
