Job Description:

Certerra Southwest, a leading engineering consulting firm, has an excellent opportunity for an Environmental Scientist working into Project Management in our Reno, NV office.

The successful candidate will conduct a variety of field and office duties to support senior team leaders. Project assignments will take you to locations throughout the southwestern United States, but primarily in Arizona. This position requires a hard-working, safe, efficient and dedicated employee that is excited to receive training on the job and expand their current skill set.

General responsibilities:

(Include but are not limited to:)

• Conduct field sampling and inspections for soil, groundwater, air, and building materials. • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ASTM E1527-21) including historical records review, site reconnaissance, and preparation of technical reports.

• Perform Phase II environmental investigations including soil, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling under the direction of project managers.

• Perform asbestos building inspections and bulk sampling in accordance with AHERA and state regulatory requirements.

• Conduct lead-based paint inspections and risk assessments using XRF analyzers and paint chip sampling techniques.

• Perform indoor air quality (IAQ) monitoring including collection of samples for VOCs, mold spores, particulate matter, and other indoor contaminants.

• Document field activities through field notes, photographs, and site sketches.

• Communicate with clients and contractors during field activities.

Required Job Qualifications:

• Environmental science, biology, chemistry, industrial hygiene or similar background.

• 1-3 years of experience in environmental or industrial hygiene consulting.

• Experience with environmental sampling techniques including soil, groundwater, air, and building materials.

• Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (EPA, OSHA, ADEQ, etc.).

• Strong technical writing and data organization skills.

• Certifications such as AHERA Building Inspector, AHERA Contractor/Supervisor, Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor, or 40-hour HAZWOPER are preferred.

• A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record • Pass a pre-employment drug screen


Physical Demands:

• Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work

• Ability to stoop, kneel and to routinely lift and carry 50 pounds

• Ability to travel for field work and some overnight stays

• Able to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold EOC
