Electrical Engineer 1/2Location: Birmingham, AL Contract- 3 Years Client- Southern CompanyJob Summary:We are seeking an entry-level to early-career Electrical Engineer to join our team supporting utility-scale renewable energy integration, specifically solar projects. This role is part of the Protection and Controls group and focuses on performing technical studies and designing protection schemes to support interconnection of customer-owned renewable facilities with utility transmission systems.Key Responsibilities:Perform short-circuit and breaker duty studies to support customer facility interconnection to transmission systemsAnalyze and specify protection requirements at company substations and points of interconnectionUse Siemens Gridscale X (formerly CAPE) and/or ASPEN software to model short-circuit and protection systemsCreate and update protection models based on customer-provided dataReview protection schemes for compliance with transmission stability and reliability standardsCommunicate technical requirements and study results clearly to interconnection customers and internal teamsParticipate in cross-functional meetings to provide technical expertiseSupport modeling of transmission systems and transformers for capital projectsQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (required)Relevant experience in power systems, power delivery, or renewable energy (solar preferred)Academic or internship exposure to transmission systems and interconnection studies strongly preferredFamiliarity with protection and controls concepts and applications in utility environmentsExperience with Siemens Gridscale X (CAPE) or ASPEN software a plusProficiency in SQL or Visual Basic is a bonusStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsEffective verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively in technical and cross-functional teams
