Job description

Eversource is looking for a Distribution Design Associate Engineer to be located in Cheshire, CT. An entry-level position within the Distribution Design Engineer (DDE) progression reporting to an Engineering Lead. This position will provide the individual with experience and training necessary for advancement to the fully qualified level of Distribution Design Engineer. Duties will include assisting in identifying improvements and major repair needs on the distribution system, providing engineering support to Field Engineering Design for certain customer additions and assisting with system improvements for assigned circuits. Individual will review daily interruption reports and analyze projected circuit deficiencies (e.g. voltage, overloads, etc.) for assigned circuits. Individual will also assist the DDE/Lead with developing recommendations on equipment replacement vs repair to maximize Return on Asset (ROA). Individual will participate during major restoration efforts including Emergency Preparedness.
Essential Functions:
• Assist with the planning function and performance for all assigned circuits.
• Assist in identifying benefits from individual projects and predicted desired outcomes.
• Provide engineering support for specific projects.
• Assist with engineering resolutions for multiple outages in the Distribution System
• Create field work in current work management system.
• Assist DDE/Lead until proficient in support of the following:
  • EMF communications and/or measurements for customers.
  • Real Estate Department and Customer to negotiate easements as required.
  • Account Executives with customer quality of service issues.
  • Operations with distribution issues. This includes review switching, develop contingency plans, prioritizing work, monitoring yellow tags, etc.
  • Engineering support to Field Engineering Design
  • P&CE on developing Recloser and Breaker settings.

• Considers safety in all circuit analysis.
• Makes direct contact with customer and develop corrective actions.
• Provide regulator and capacitor control settings for Electrical Maintenance.
• Assist in outage, voltage, and power quality investigations and will engineer corrective action to prevent reoccurrence. Provide reports as required.
• Works with DDE/Lead in the development of distribution projects and will be required to present to the Connecticut Project Authorization Committee CTPAC for approval.
• Evaluate proposed DG interconnection applications.
• Review and implement annual procedures, (e.g. TD941).
• Utilize electronic software tools to model and analyze the distribution system (SynerGee, PTI, USAmp, PI, Visio, etc.)
• Other related duties as assigned, including support to SOC
• Will have nonexclusive, non-supervisory, storm restoration and emergency assignments.
Education, Experience and Skills:
• Education: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required, Electrical Engineering preferred
• Experience: Zero (0) to Three (3) years of equivalent experience in Energy Delivery is preferred.
• Technical Skills:
  • Knowledge of distribution systems is desired.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledgeable of various computer applications including Microsoft Office. Circuit analysis software skills preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must hold a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • The annual salary range for this position is $79,000-$84,000, plus incentive. Salary progresses in accordance with the union contract. Check out the career site for an overview of our benefits.
