The Opportunity

This is a full-time, immediate opening for a scientist ready to take on technically demanding R&D work at the intersection of undersea acoustics, sonar signal processing, and national security. You'll join a multidisciplinary Sensing and Communications team tackling complex maritime systems challenges โ€” from first-principle analysis through prototype development and at-sea testing. The work is meaningful, the problems are hard, and the impact is real.

Your Day-to-Day
  • Design and develop complex undersea acoustic systems for innovative maritime applications
  • Contribute to and lead technical tasks across multiple ongoing and future R&D programs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve system design challenges against rigorous requirements
  • Plan and execute at-sea experiments to validate integrated system performance
  • Partner with senior technical staff and subject matter experts across the organization
  • Engage directly with project managers, IPT leads, and customers to communicate technical progress and requirements
What We're Looking For

Required:

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, or a closely related technical discipline
  • Experience designing or working with acoustic communication systems
  • Working knowledge of digital and analog circuits
  • Strong command of fundamental physics and mathematics principles
  • Proven ability to contribute technically and lead complex tasks at a detailed level
  • Clear, effective communication skills with technical and program leadership stakeholders

Preferred:

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary technical programs, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination
  • Background in U.S. Navy undersea warfare leadership or operations
  • Experience taking programs through the full technology lifecycle โ€” from science and technology through R&D and deployment
  • Hands-on design of undersea systems incorporating custom PCBs, embedded software, data acquisition, and signal processing
  • 1+ years developing communications systems for wireless or underwater applications
