Job Title: Electrical EngineerJob Description

This role provides technical expertise and initiative in servicing and enhancing the electronic and microprocessor systems used in signs and scoreboard product lines. The electrical engineer designs, develops, and implements electronic and software solutions, including modifications to existing products and creation of new designs, to support sales, marketing, and manufacturing. The position combines hands-on hardware and firmware work with customer-focused technical support, ensuring products are reliable, manufacturable, and aligned with market needs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide hands-on technical support through troubleshooting, design modification, development, component sourcing, prototype building, and product testing.
  • Serve as a technical resource for sign-related information requests and training for internal teams and customers.
  • Maintain all circuit board documentation and software files to ensure accurate, up-to-date records for production and support.
  • Deliver technical support for customer applications and field issues, diagnosing problems and implementing effective solutions.
  • Act as a key member of the product development team, providing engineering input and information throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Design and continuously improve electronic and electrical products, conducting research and development activities related to design, testing, manufacturability, and compliance with agency requirements.
  • Oversee, develop, and maintain product specifications and related documentation to support manufacturing and quality standards.
  • Consult with cross-functional personnel to investigate problem areas and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Participate actively in design reviews during development and recommend changes to minimize costs, ensure manufacturability, and align with existing production capabilities.
  • Analyze and evaluate failure data, prepare detailed reports, and provide recommendations to improve product reliability and performance.
  • Prepare engineering specifications and requirements for new products to support the creation of new offerings and expansion into new markets.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware engineers to ensure designs meet agreed specifications and functional requirements.
  • Design and develop embedded software and firmware to enable new product functionality and support customer-specific requirements.
  • Analyze, identify, and repair flawed code in existing products to maintain and improve product stability and customer satisfaction.
  • Work with other engineers to validate design correctness so products can be efficiently manufactured and released within required timelines.
  • Generate test requirements and implement test programs for design verification, ensuring products meet performance and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop and manage design processes and related workflows to maximize design quality, reduce time to market, and control costs.
  • Provide technical team leadership in digital and analog circuit design, design for reliability, and EMC, using tools such as FMEA and structured design reviews.
  • Maintain up-to-date skills in electronic design methods and technologies to support world-class design standards within the business.
  • Support project management activities by estimating project costs and timelines and managing engineering tasks to completion.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, start-to-finish product engineering and manufacturing environment, supporting continuous improvement and innovation.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, software engineering, computer engineering, or an equivalent background.
  • Demonstrated experience in programming and software design, including problem solving and technical record keeping.
  • Proficiency in computer languages such as C and C++, with experience developing firmware or embedded software for controllers.
  • Knowledge of hardware design and printed circuit board (PCB) design, including PCB layout and design using tools such as Altium.
  • Familiarity with PC board design and simulation software such as Altium and PSpice.
  • Ability to design software systems, including architecture, implementation, and integration with electronic hardware.
  • Experience with technical troubleshooting of electronic systems and microprocessor-based products.
  • Ability to manage project resources, estimate project costs and time requirements, and support project management activities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with team members, cross-functional partners, and customers.
  • Ability to create and maintain circuit board blueprints and related documentation.
  • Proficiency with standard office software, including MS Word and MS Excel or equivalent tools.
  • Experience providing technical support for customer applications and field problems.
  • Ability to participate in and contribute to formal design reviews, including cost, manufacturability, and production capability considerations.

Work Environment

This role is fully on-site and hands-on, with no remote work option, and requires frequent interaction with physical hardware, prototypes, and production equipment. The engineering team operates in a close-knit, collaborative environment where electrical engineers and technical support staff work together on start-to-finish product engineering and manufacturing. The group was formed to improve manufacturability and remains highly productive, with ongoing plans to grow the engineering team. You will work alongside hardware and firmware engineers who support both design and technical support activities, contributing to products that are visible in everyday commercial environments such as retail and restaurant signage and scoreboards. The culture emphasizes collaboration, continuous improvement, and direct involvement in taking products from concept through design, testing, and manufacturing.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
