Job description

Green Mountain Power is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design and maintain substation electrical protection and control systems and/or components to required specifications, focusing on safety, reliability and sustainability. This role requires a broad set of detail-oriented engineering, technical and administrative skills, as well as the ability to effectively communicate with and build good relationships with teammates in Engineering and Operations.

What you'll do:

  • Work with safety as a priority and customer service as your focus.
  • Develop and maintain protection and control system drawings for distribution, transmission and generation substations utilizing Computer-Aided Design (CAD / Microstation) software.
  • Direct and coordinate relay switchgear specifications, documentation, and manufacturing as well as support construction, testing, and commissioning activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and design requirements.
  • Develop Operational Oneline Diagrams, commissioning guides.
  • Participate in project estimations by developing budgets, estimating labor, material, and construction costs.
  • Provide project updates on key deliverables on all aspects of a project throughout its life cycle.
  • Provide support during storm conditions as all work to restore power for customers, which can involve working longer hours.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience tracking and coordinating multiple initiatives while delivering high quality results.
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Electrical engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of utility protection and control, preferably with experience working on Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) or other utility relay control systems.
  • A strong interest in technology and the desire to learn and leverage technical solutions to improve communication, analysis, and make workflows more effective.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic organization with changing deadlines to provide great customer service.
  • The desire to take on new challenges and work through unknowns.

Location

Can be either our Colchester or Rutland, Vermont office.

Compensation

As part of our commitment to fair and open hiring practices, we disclose compensation. This position offers a competitive salary range of $75,000 โ€“ $110,000 annually, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and the scope of responsibilities.
