Position Summary
The Pima Community College Nursing Program's mission is to prepare students for their professional nursing role as they develop knowledge, attitudes, and skills for the benefit of patients and the community.
Pima Community College's nursing instructors believe the primary goal of the program is to prepare graduates to use their acquire knowledge, attitudes, and skills to contribute to community health in local, national, and global settings. We believe partnerships with community health care facilities foster student learning and civic engagement while providing service and support to socio-economic and culturally diverse populations. Faculty provide educational advancement through the utilization of evidence-based practice, informatics, lifelong learning, and the development of clinical reasoning. We are committed to graduating compassionate, ethical, and knowledgeable nurse leaders who are empowered to transform health care.
About the Position
The Nursing Instructional Staff performs a variety of instructional duties while adhering to the rules of the Arizona State Board of Nursing. Instructional Staff teach and work a flexible schedule over a twelve-month academic year that could include day, evening, night, and weekend duties. This position is a full-time nursing instructor that may be used in the classroom, in skills labs, in simulation, and clinically. The selected candidate may be used in any teaching modality necessary to achieve the Nursing Program's goals.
Nursing Instructional Staff functions within the Division of Health Professions in the Entry-Level Nursing courses (Nursing Assistant, Caregiver, etc.) and seeks to support a student-centered learning environment, focused on helping nursing students achieve their educational goals. Nursing Instructional Staff are allocated teaching responsibilities that achieve course, program, campus, and college outcomes. Nursing Instructors are actively engaged in community outreach, curriculum development, and valuation of student learning outcomes. They contribute to the change processes, driven by college, campus, and program strategic plans. Nursing Instructional Staff reports directly to the Nursing Program Manager
The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends and local travel
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Instructs students and works with them on strategies to help them achieve academic success
  • Uses current, effective classroom management techniques
  • Monitors and continuously improves instruction to ensure Student Learning Outcomes are met on a classroom, discipline/program, and College level
  • Evaluates student performance; prepares progress reports; provides support and advocacy; meets with advisors to discuss student progress; and evaluates student progress for program continuation or completion
  • Continually improve instruction utilizing appropriate delivery methods
  • Evaluates and revises course outlines and course materials; Prepares syllabi, instructional materials, lesson plans, and classroom and laboratory presentations
  • Provides academic advising
  • Maintains competency and currency in the teaching fields as well as in teaching strategies, subject delivery modalities, and assessment methods
  • Prepares official records, forms, data-tracking reports, attendance reports, and related required documentation. Reads and responds to emails and other communications
  • Serves actively as a member of the department and discipline groups
  • Participates in fostering partnerships that strengthen educational opportunities in response to community needs
  • Represents the department and/or campus on college-wide committees
  • Works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students and utilizes a collegial style in all forms of communication

Job Requirements/Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) and
  • Current, unencumbered Arizona or compact state Registered Nurse License and
  • A minimum of two years of experience in direct patient care supervising certified nursing assistants

or
  • An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above

  • Possibly work at more than one Pima Community College Campus, depending on the need
  • Teach in multiple modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to adapt and modify instruction based on the student's instructional needs and learning styles, including working with accommodations and accessibility
  • Knowledge of appropriate and effective use of assessment information to improve instruction
  • Evaluation of students' educational progress: ability to maintain high instruction and learning standards and assess students' academic progress in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes
  • Teaching in multiple modalities such as online, web-enhanced, and D2L courses: knowledge of curriculum development, course design, and delivery
  • Knowledge of the resources available to students to assist them with academic and personal challenges, and the ability to help students access those resources, skilled in providing academic advising
  • Competencies in multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusivity: knowledge of diverse community college student populations, and the ability to address diversity in effective instructional practice and student learning
