What You Will Be Doing:

Do you enjoy working with your hands? Do you have a natural knack for fixing and repairing things? Are you interested in a career as a Diesel technician? Are you looking for a college Certificate/Diploma, without the academic requirements?

Partnering with Chattahoochee Technical College at the Austell Campus, Yancey Bros. Co. is offering a unique opportunity that combines classroom and hands-on training while you receive college credit. This is a full-time, paid position with benefits allows you to start your path to becoming a Diesel Technician. The certificate is a stand alone credential but the credits are fully transferable to future diploma or degrees in Diesel Technology and some other’s in the State of Georgia, if the student chooses to do so in the future.

Starting pay is $20 per hour with scheduled increases at the 6-month and 12-month marks. All students are provided with a complete set of tools (valued at $8,000) to use during their training and are eligible to keep them after two years of employment. This is an entry level position which allows for advancement through the Yancey career development program after completion.

About the Program:

  • 4-months (16 weeks) of instructor-led training, followed by a structured mentorship program through your first year of employment. Working 40 hours per week, you meet the requirements of a 1year certificate program.
  • Follow an outline of class material, hands-on-training, and process / procedure experiences under the supervision of your instructor to prepare you for a career as a Diesel Technician.
  • Includes a structured task / accomplishment check-in cycle.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Disassemble and assemble components.
  • Clean and inspect components.
  • Evaluate re-usability of component parts.
  • Perform failure analysis based on failed parts, SOS reports, and Machine operation.
Education/Experience:
  • The knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Meet Yancey Bros. Co. pre- employment requirements. All mechanical testing, background checks, driving record checks and drug screening will be conducted.
  • Must meet the requirements to enter the Technical College System of Georgia.
  • Students are responsible for the tuition and fees associated with the college program. This program is Hope Grant qualified, so students meeting the requirements have the potential of having the majority of the program paid for.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

  • Previous mechanical experience.

Environmental Job Requirements:

  • Most of your time is spent standing/walking.
  • Willing to work in extreme weather conditions and around loud noises.

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Will require appropriate Personal Protection Equipment to be worn.
  • Able to operate and climb underneath equipment.
  • Able to lift, carry, and lower up to 100 lbs.

Travel:

  • Not required.
