Job description

Position: Entry level Machine Design Engineer
Location: Albemarle, NC
Type: Full-time | On-site
Primary Function:
Responsible for developing new production equipment and prototypes, improving existing mechanical systems, designing and testing new mechanical systems, and developing various automated systems.
Specific Duties:
  • Designs, develops and improves mechanical systems and devices for custom-built and procured production equipment and automation.
  • Prepares appropriation requests with cost estimates, develops a project schedule and maintains project budget.
  • Creates and maintains mechanical design documentation, including assembly and detail drawings. Drawings may be completed through the drafting support function.
  • Conducts design review presentations with key plant stakeholders for design approval.
  • Works with suppliers to source qualified components.
  • Obtains quotations and generates project (work) orders and purchase requisitions for required materials and components.
  • Provides engineering assistance and coordinates with job shops and assembly departments to assure compliance with engineering design.
  • Assists with the build and oversees the installation of the automated system.
  • Commissions and troubleshoots cell for initial production run.
  • Prepares maintenance and parts manuals, operation instructions and recommended spare parts list.
  • Maintains design archives as required.

Education:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering.

Experience:
  • Experience in mechanical design or a desire to build custom production equipment and automated systems in a manufacturing facility. Experience in generating technical drawings.
  • Experience with 3D solid modeling software (Creo preferred).

Skills:
  • The candidate must possess strong mechanical design and hands-on capabilities; working knowledge of mechanical design/detailing, pneumatics, hydraulics and materials; basic experience in 3D modeling software (Creo preferred) and MS Office software applications; solid organizational skills including a detail-oriented personality and multitasking skills; work well independently or in teams; have clear, concise and accurate communication skills (verbal and written)
