This role focuses on programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports, while providing engineering support throughout the project lifecycle. The position offers structured training and growth opportunities in a stable, high-demand power delivery industry.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all designs comply with safety requirements as well as established design and quality expectations.
  • Travel to field sites as needed to perform inspections, gather data, and return to the office to complete engineering design work.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and voltage drop and flicker calculations.
  • Prepare and develop permitting documents for various Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including reviewing work and conducting post-construction evaluations to confirm compliance with applicable engineering and construction standards.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and develop mitigation plans using sound engineering principles and design practices.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to communicate design intent, resolve technical issues, and support project delivery.
  • Represent the business professionally in client-facing situations, demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Contribute to a fast-paced project environment by managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines, and supporting continuous improvement of design processes.

  • Strong capability to interact with clients and represent the organization and self professionally.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent projects.
  • Fundamental understanding of power distribution and electrical distribution concepts.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations related to structural analysis, wood pole loading, guying, conductor sags and tensions, and voltage drop and flicker.
  • Proficiency or willingness to learn design tools and GIS-related technologies used in utility and power distribution engineering.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting safety, design, and quality standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is a plus.

  • Experience or coursework related to distribution design, power distribution, and electrical distribution engineering.
  • Comfort working with GIS and related systems in a utility or engineering context.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in diagnosing outages and developing engineering-based solutions.
  • Effective communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
  • Motivation to build a long-term career in the power delivery industry, with interest in ongoing training and professional development.
