Job description

Overview:

The Driver Trainee is an entry-level, 1st shift position for newly hired drivers participating in Baldor's structured driver training program. Under the guidance and supervision of qualified trainers and leadership, the Driver Trainee learns to operate FMCSA-regulated straight trucks to support product deliveries to customers and/or Baldor locations.

This role is designed to prepare the individual for independent driving responsibilities and is intended to transition into the Local Delivery Driver position upon successful completion of the four-week training program, subject to performance, safety, and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities:

Assist with and progressively perform deliveries of up to 12 pallets per route to customer locations and/or Baldor facilities, both intra- and interstate.

Learn to safely operate FMCSA-regulated straight trucks in compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and Company policies.

Utilize hand trucks, lift gates, and other material-handling equipment to load and unload pallets at delivery destinations.

Participate in required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in accordance with DOT and Company procedures.

Learn and follow proper delivery documentation processes, including obtaining customer signatures using electronic Bills of Lading (BOL).

Maintain professional communication with trainers, dispatch, customers, and internal teams.

Handle products carefully to ensure quality and integrity of goods throughout transport and delivery.

Training & Progression:

This position is a training role with a standard four-week training period.

Successful completion of training, including safety, performance, and compliance expectations, is required for eligibility to transition into the Local Delivery Driver role.

Continued employment and role transition are contingent upon meeting Company, DOT, and FMCSA standards.

Requirements:

Valid Driver's License with a minimum of one year driving experience.

Experience operating FMCSA-regulated vehicles (preferred).

Valid DOT Medical Card.

Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English language sufficiently to comply with FMCSA/DOT regulations.

Valid driving record with minimal infractions, in accordance to Company policy.

Knowledge of products to ensure proper handling and quality control.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Ability to follow safety procedures, routes, and delivery instructions accurately.

Schedule:

Ability to work up to 6-day work schedule including weekends and holidays.

Early start time as early as 4am, based on route and operational needs.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, push and pull up to 80lbs,

Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time.

Ability to work outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions without reasonable accommodation.
