Job description

Job Summary


We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to join our client's data center installation team. This role involves installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining low voltage systems and networking infrastructure within a fast-paced, high-security data center environment. The ideal candidate has experience working with low voltage cabling, fiber optics, and network equipment installation, and adheres to industry standards and safety protocols.


Key Responsibilities


  • Install, terminate, and test low voltage cabling, including Cat5e/6/6A, fiber optic, and coaxial cables, in data center environments
  • Install and mount networking equipment such as routers, switches, patch panels, and firewalls in server racks
  • Perform cable management, labeling, and patching, ensuring all work adheres to established standards and best practices
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with low voltage cabling and networking equipment, performing tests and inspections to ensure optimal performance
  • Collaborate with data center engineers, electricians, and other team members to coordinate installations and upgrades
  • Read and interpret technical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Maintain high standards of safety and security, following all data center protocols and guidelines
  • Keep accurate records of installations, updates, and repairs performed
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technologies relevant to low voltage systems and networking hardware

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certifications are a plus (e.g., BICSI, CompTIA Network+)
  • Experience installing and maintaining low voltage cabling and networking equipment, preferably in a data center environment
  • Proficiency with cable testing tools and network equipment
  • Strong understanding of industry standards such as ANSI/TIA/EIA and BICSI
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams
  • Familiarity with power distribution units (PDUs) and server rack configurations
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces and high places
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed
