Job Description Summary:

The Telecom Design Technician I supports the design and development of aerial telecommunications infrastructure by reviewing field data, assisting with engineering designs, and preparing project deliverables. This entry-level role works under the guidance of senior engineers and project leads to ensure designs meet client standards, regulatory requirements, and project timelines. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to interpret technical data, and familiarity with GIS and design tools.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze field collection data, including pole photos, measurements, spans, attachments, and existing utility conditions.
  • Utilize client systems such as GIS platforms, utility portals, permitting databases, design tools, and project tracking systems.
  • Assist in the design of aerial fiber and telecommunications networks using GIS, CAD, or client-specific tools.
  • Perform basic pole loading analysis under supervision using approved software and engineering standards.
  • Identify pole attachment requirements, make-ready needs, clearance issues, and inconsistencies in field data.
  • Apply foundational knowledge of NESC standards related to clearances, pole attachments, guying, span lengths, and communication space.
  • Prepare preliminary engineering deliverables, including pole data packages, design markups, permit exhibits, and construction documentation.
  • Support quality control efforts by reviewing data accuracy, attachment heights, pole ownership, span information, and equipment placement.
  • Communicate data gaps, design conflicts, and project issues to engineers, project leads, and managers.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and ensure deliverables meet client specifications and deadlines.
