Job description

Overview:

Entry level position reporting to Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support for the department.  Processing incoming jobs from the Sales & Estimating department.  Initiate and process Novia job submittals & support engineering and sales on all initiatives pertaining to our business.
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and detail vibration-isolation roof curbs, rails, bases, for ability to resist seismic, wind, and dead-combined loading.
  • Perform Excel seismic and wind load force calculations for mechanical and electrical components and distributed systems.
  • Create bracing plans and installation tie-down details for electrical and mechanical components and for distributed systems.
  • Design and detail structural steel rails and bases for point support on vibration-isolation devices with and without supplemental seismic and wind load bracing or reinforcement.
  • Design and detail vibration-isolation systems for rotating and reciprocating equipment per specification requirements, ASHREA recommendations, and industry standards.
  • Submit design for review by in house & consulting PE in the state in which the project is located.
  • Interpret and apply state, federal, and international building code for wind load, seismic load, snow load, and dead load requirements as they apply to the attachment of non-structural building components.
  • Interpret and apply structural steel and attachment requirements per the American Institute of Steel Construction’s Manual of Steel construction, American Concrete Institute, National Design Standards for Wood Construction, etc.
  • Provide individual guidance to project engineers of record.
  • Support customers by fielding technical questions and providing solutions.
  • Assist outside sales personnel with acquiring and managing project related information.
  • Work closely with sales and operations teams to ensure milestones are met and projects remain on schedule.
  • Perform data entry when jobs are created, completed, or changed.
  • Maintain engineering inbox database and perform follow-up activities.
  • Assist sales team with generating market information and developing presentations.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and personnel.
  • 3D modeling of Novia products.
  • Finite element analysis using SolidWorks.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong CAD skills primarily in SolidWorks.
  • Engineering, drafting and or design experience preferred. Will train on job specific duties.
  • Experience in vibration isolation, equipment manufacturing & engineering, and/or industrial construction preferred but not required.
  • Detail oriented professional with excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task within a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Friendly and well spoken.
  • Strong computer skills including primarily AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, PDF, email, and data entry.
  • Prefer experience or willing to learn SolidWorks.
  • Must be able to work under time pressures, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Read and interpret building plans and specifications.
