Job description

As Centerline expands its data center operations throughout Texas and across the United States, we are seeking experienced Data Center Fiber Splice Technicians to support the installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of critical fiber infrastructure. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with collaboration across construction, commissioning, and customer teams in fast-paced, mission-critical environments.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with fiber optic splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation within data center, enterprise, or telecommunications environments. Candidates should be customer-focused, safety-minded, and committed to delivering high-quality work.
What You Will Do:
  • Perform single-fiber, ribbon, and mass fusion splicing of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables in data center environments.
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic infrastructure supporting hyperscale, enterprise, and colocation data centers.
  • Work with fiber distribution frames (FDFs), patch panels, MPO/MTP systems, and structured cabling infrastructure.
  • Perform advanced fiber testing and troubleshooting using OTDR, OLTS, iOLM, power meters, and fiber characterization equipment.
  • Interpret fiber routing diagrams, rack elevations, splice schematics, and construction drawings.
  • Prepare accurate as-built documentation, test results, labeling, and project deliverables.
  • Support commissioning, turn-up, migration, and maintenance activities for active network environments.
  • Identify and resolve fiber-related issues while maintaining service continuity in mission-critical facilities.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, customers, and commissioning teams to ensure successful project completion.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians on fiber splicing techniques, testing procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain compliance with customer standards, quality requirements, and company safety programs.
  • Participate in scheduled maintenance windows, including occasional night, weekend, and holiday work when required.

What You Will Need:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Fiber Optic Splice Technician, preferably in data center, enterprise, or telecommunications environments.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Demonstrated experience with fusion splicing, ribbon splicing, fiber testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, fiber schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Experience using OTDRs, power meters, light sources, iOLM platforms, and fiber certification equipment.
  • Ability to perceive color differences for fiber identification and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and project documentation tools.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass required background checks, drug screenings, and customer-specific site requirements.
  • Ability to work in active data center environments while following strict operational and safety procedures.

Work Environment:
  • Repeated and frequent ability to lift, from floor to above head, 25 lbs continuously.
  • Ability to sit, stand, climb, kneel, bend, lift, crawl, squat, reach, and utilize both hands and feet in an aerial and underground capacity.
  • Environmental Conditions exposure is heat, cold, dust, wet, vibration, and very loud noise.
  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods, stand, bend, walk, communicate via telephone, computer and/or face-to-face contact, vision to monitor, and use basic office equipment such as a personal computer, copier, and fax machines regularly during the course of work.
  • Work is performed in and out of an office environment.
