Customer Analytics Manager
Alabama Power Company - Customer Solutions
This position will be located at APC Corporate Headquarters in Birmingham, AL

POSITION SUMMARY

The Customer Analytics Manager is responsible for leading the Alabama Power Company (APC) Customer Analytics team within Customer Solutions and Business Development (CSBD) and engaging directly as an APC subject matter expert on advanced analytics initiatives.

This role leads a team of data scientists and data analysts in creating and enhancing advanced analytics models using both structured and unstructured data to inform growth decisions and strategies across CSBD.

Further, this role will collaborate with partners across Southern Company to drive the development of customer experience tools to enable the company to meet our customers' evolving needs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of data scientists and data analysts

  • Direct and manage multiple data science initiatives, ensuring timely execution and superior deliverables

  • Partner with peer managers, TO, and SCS partners to integrate data science solutions into our customer experiences and solutions

  • Lead the development of tools for clients to leverage within their roles

  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to help manage and improve existing data sets and analytical tools

  • Articulate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior management and external clients

  • Support CSBD's access to, understanding of, and engagement with internal and external data sources and systems

  • Utilize advanced analytics techniques and AI to alongside complex datasets and derive actionable insights

  • Convey data driven insights for growth decisions and strategies across the residential, commercial, industrial, and unregulated segments

  • Develop deeper understanding of our customers via internal and external data 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • A master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field preferred

Experience:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience required; formal leadership experience with high-performing teams preferred

  • Understanding of advanced analytical, statistical, and predictive modeling methodologies

  • Strategic understanding of data infrastructure, including data storage, retrieval, governance, reporting, and cataloging a plus

  • Experience working with Azure Databricks or other relevant cloud platforms is required

  • Proficient in everyday AI use

  • Experience in programming one or more languages such as Python, R, and SQL

  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI

Additional Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to apply innovation and inquisitiveness. 

  • Strategic understanding and vision for AI enablement in data science

  • Awareness and understanding of Southern Company data and AI initiatives across the enterprise

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner

  • Familiarity and/or experience working with third parties either through supplemental staffing resources or consulting agreements

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with proficiency in working with large and complex data sets
