Job description

This is an entry-level position to support sales via targeting commercial feed quality. This position is responsible for ensuring quality feed is produced at Western Milling feed sites and is maintained through customer delivery. Additionally, this position requires provision of technical support to sales team and its customers.


  • Collect routine feed samples on farm as well as on-site at the mill.
  • Evaluate feed quality on farm and on-site at the feed mill via methods including but not limited to feed screening, shaker-box evaluation, particle length measurement, aroma and texture.
  • Work with quality control team and be familiar with manufacturing protocols and practices.
  • Work with dispatch and feed mill operators as it pertains to manufacturing and transportation of feed.
  • Data collection, organization, and presentation.
  • Work with sales team to troubleshoot areas pertaining to consistent quality feed delivery.
  • Work with nutrition team as it pertains to impact of feed quality on animal performance.
  • Develop understanding of dairy and beef nutrition to supplement calf feed sales and trouble shoot concerns in dairy and beef operations.
  • Communicate with customers around feed quality expectations and needs.
  • Provide back-up support for other roles as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager/supervisor.

  • A bachelor’s degree in animal science or dairy science is required.
  • A master’s degree in a related field is preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and collaborative demeanor.
  • Proficient knowledge of livestock, particularly beef and dairy.
  • Must be self-motivated, dependable, honest and thorough. A versatile self-starter with a positive attitude who is cautiously assertive.
  • Ability to change direction and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis.
  • Perform critical thinking and has the ability to troubleshoot.
  • Thorough in completing tasks and focused on quality output with attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines with internal and external customers and effectively communicate information and ideas (written and verbal) so others comprehend.

  • Able to lift weight up to 50 pounds.
  • Necessary physical capabilities for navigating on-farm circumstances.
