Job Description
The Cyber & Network Security Technician supports campus cybersecurity
and network security operations through monitoring, incident support, vulnerability management tasks, and documentation. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience aligned with entry-level cybersecurity and SOC career paths. This position works directly with a System Analyst 2 and System Specialist 1.
Essential Duties Summary
Cybersecurity Operations
• Monitor and review security alerts from endpoint, firewall, or SIEM tools
• Perform initial triage of low-risk security events and escalate as needed
• Assist with phishing investigation and response procedures
• Maintain security documentation and runbooks
Network Security Support
• Assist with basic network troubleshooting and connectivity issues
• Support reviews of firewall rules, VLANs, and access controls
• Verify secure configurations on devices and endpoints
• Maintain network and asset inventories
Vulnerability & Compliance Assistance
• Assist with vulnerability scans and results review
• Track remediation efforts and risk logs
• Support MFA, password, and endpoint compliance checks
Endpoint & User Security
• Support endpoint protection tools (AV/EDR alerts)
• Assist with patch verification and device security checks
• Promote cybersecurity best practices to end users
Ticketing & Documentation
• Log and update tickets in the IT service management system
