This position is responsible for community outreach, applicant recruitment, initial eligibility review, homeowner selection coordination, and new Future Homeowner onboarding. The role also coordinates early-stage homeowner education, manages key applicant communications, and supports volunteer recruitment and training related to the selection and empowerment process. The ideal candidate is an engaging and highly organized professional who is comfortable presenting to the public, building strong community relationships, and guiding applicants through the earliest stages of the path to homeownership. This role requires strong people skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple moving parts while upholding Habitat program guidelines.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in community outreach, applicant intake, eligibility screening, mortgage or housing program origination, case management, or a related field.
  • Experience coordinating volunteers, community partners, or public-facing education and engagement activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, human services, business, education, affordable housing, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and relevant work experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Qualified Loan Originator (QLO) Certification.
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish or Creole is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong people skills with the ability to connect effectively with diverse individuals, families, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Comfortable with live and virtual presentations, workshops, and community event participation.
  • Ability to organize detailed applicant information and maintain accurate records and communications.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage shared email accounts, track follow-up items, and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and represent the organization professionally in the community.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Community Outreach
    • Conduct live and virtual presentations to educate prospective applicants and community stakeholders about Habitat homeownership opportunities.
    • Represent the organization at community resource fairs, outreach events, and other public engagement opportunities.
    • Build awareness of program guidelines, timelines, and opportunities through proactive community engagement.

  1. Homeowner Selection Application and Origination
    • Manage early-stage applicant intake and support the homeowner selection pipeline.
    • Conduct preliminary eligibility reviews, verify required documentation, and prepare applicant files for underwriting and homeowner selection review in accordance with program requirements.
    • Prepare, issue, and track notifications and action notices related to applicant status.
    • Ensure compliance with Fair Housing requirements, Equal Credit Opportunity standards, applicant confidentiality, records retention policies, and homeowner selection documentation requirements.

  1. Volunteer Management, Recruitment, and Training
    • Provide ongoing development, guidance, and support to volunteer Empowerment Coaches through regular communication, coaching, training opportunities, and performance feedback to ensure they are equipped to effectively mentor Future Homeowners.
    • Manage the recruitment, onboarding, and training of volunteer banking partners to assist with credit and income analysis during Homeowner Selection periods, ensuring all volunteers understand Habitat’s specific program criteria, Fair Housing regulations, and documentation standards.
    • Lead and facilitate the Homeowner Selection Committee meetings by preparing meeting materials, presenting applicant information, guiding committee discussions, ensuring consistent application of Habitat's Homeownership Program guidelines, documenting committee decisions, and coordinating follow-up communications and next steps with applicants and internal staff.

  1. New Future Homeowner Onboarding
    • Coordinate pre-program preparations and facilitate onboarding for newly selected Future Homeowners.
    • Manage intake and orientation processes to ensure participants begin the program with clear expectations and next steps.

  1. Prospective Homeowner Calls and Email Inquiries
  • Serve as the first point of contact for interested families seeking information about Habitat homeownership opportunities.
  • Manage the shared email accounts and ensure timely follow-up.

  1. Education Coordination
    • Coordinate and support Pathway to Homeownership workshops for prospective homeowners.
    • Coordinate Future Homeowner workshops and Youth Empowerment Program (Y.E.P.) workshops.
    • Track physical presence, pre- and post-testing, surveys, and reporting related to educational activities.

  1. Special Events and Community Liaison Activities
    • Support and coordinate department-related events, including New Class Kick-Off events, civic engagement opportunities, The Social, and Home Dedication Ceremonies.
    • Maintain relationships with preferred referral partners and keep community partners informed of Habitat guidelines and opportunities.
    • Serve as a departmental liaison to affordable housing and community-based partner networks.
