Controls Engineer

Position: Controls Engineer 
Location: Ontario, CA
Position Summary:

The Controls Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of control systems for manufacturing and industrial processes. You will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to assist in automation projects, troubleshoot control systems, and ensure optimal equipment performance.

We are seeking a technically strong entry-level engineer who has basic programming knowledge and is comfortable writing code. While prior controls experience is beneficial, we can train the right candidate on controls-specific programming and industrial automation systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and development of control systems using PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA platforms
  • Support programming, testing, and debugging of automation systems
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to implement control system solutions for new and existing equipment
  • Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to minimize downtime
  • Participate in system commissioning, startup, and validation activities
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and specifications
  • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system efficiency, reliability, and safety
  • Work with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and production staff
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Basic programming experience and the ability to write, understand, and troubleshoot code
  • Experience gained through coursework, projects, internships, co-ops, or professional experience is acceptable
  • Ability and willingness to learn PLC programming and industrial automation technologies
  • Familiarity with PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems, or industrial automation concepts is a plus
  • Understanding of electrical systems, control theory, and engineering fundamentals
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Exposure to manufacturing, robotics, motion control, machine vision, or industrial communication protocols is preferred
