Job description

We are looking to hire an Engineer I or Engineer II. This position is based in Plymouth, MI, and compensation is aligned with this designated work location.
JOB SUMMARY
Supports systems engineering and safety activities for the Automated Driving Kit (ADK) and its integration into the vehicle. Develops and maintains system requirements, use cases, MBSE models, interfaces, and traceability across the ADK, vehicle control interface, and chassis. The engineer also supports the integration of Fusa, SOTIF, and cybersecurity considerations into system engineering work products and collaborates with global Isuzu teams, ADK suppliers, and verification teams to enable safe and reliable deployment of automated driving functions.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1Develops and maintains ADK/ADS system requirements, use cases, interface requirements, operational states and modes, acceptance criteria, and bidirectional traceability across the ADK, vehicle control interface, and chassis.
2. Supports MBSE activities, including system context definition, functional architecture, capability decomposition, interface modeling, state/behavior modeling, and allocation of requirements to ADK and vehicle subsystems.
3. Supports the integration of functional safety, SOTIF, and cybersecurity considerations into system requirements, interfaces, models, analyses, and assurance evidence in collaboration with domain specialists.
4. Collaborates with verification and validation teams to define verification methods, objective pass/fail criteria, requirements-to-test traceability and coverage, scenario-based testing needs, system-level KPIs, and evidence required for safety assurance.
5. Coordinates with ADK suppliers and cross-functional/global teams; supports technical reviews and change-impact analyses; and clearly documents technical decisions, assumptions, rationale, issues, and status.
6. Reviews applicable standards, regulations, technical guidance, research, and industry best practices; performs applicability and gap analyses; and translates the results into implementation processes, workflows, templates, checklists, requirements, and reusable engineering work products.
7. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
  • Reports to: Supervisor, Model Based Development - Advanced Engineering

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in systems engineering, MBSE, automotive systems, or automated driving
  • Foundational knowledge of systems engineering lifecycle processes, requirements development, requirements decomposition, interface definition, and bidirectional traceability
  • Experience with, or academic exposure to, MBSE and SysML modeling methods is preferred
  • Foundational knowledge of functional safety (ISO 26262), SOTIF (ISO 21448), and automotive cybersecurity (ISO/SAE 21434) is preferred
  • Understanding of ADAS/AD or ADK concepts, including perception, localization, planning, control, middleware, and vehicle interfaces, is highly desirable
  • Strong academic or professional record demonstrating structured thinking, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills

KNOWLEDGE
  • Systems engineering principles, including stakeholder needs, system requirements, functional architecture, interface management, verification planning, and lifecycle traceability
  • Requirements engineering practices, including clear requirement writing, decomposition, allocation, change management, and requirements-to-test traceability
  • MBSE concepts and SysML diagrams used to describe system context, use cases, functions, interfaces, and behavior
  • Foundational understanding of automated driving system and ADK architecture, including perception, localization, planning, control, middleware, VCI, and chassis interactions

SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Excellent PC skills in Microsoft Office
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to organize complex technical information and translate stakeholder needs into clear, testable system requirements
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with cross-functional and global teams
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as Polarion, DOORS, Jama, or equivalent; exposure to MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, Enterprise Architect, Capella, or equivalent is preferred
  • Ability to learn ADK technologies and safety standards, work independently with guidance, and collaborate effectively with engineering teams and suppliers

PHYSICAL STANDARDS
The employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. This is primarily a sedentary position in a controlled office environment which requires only occasional reaching, stooping, and lifting of office files, reports or records, typically weighing 5 lbs. or less. Requires occasional light lifting (5-25 lbs). Must be able on rare occasions to bend, crawl, climb, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level in the performance of job duties. Must be able to work in hot and cold weather extremes.
Position requires up to 5% travel.
We are looking to hire an Engineer I or II level in our Plymouth, MI location. Compensation for this role varies by location and is informed by cost of living and local market benchmarks. The pay scale for an Engineer I in Plymouth, MI is $87,448 to $111,496. The pay scale for an Engineer II in Sunnyvale, CA is $97,063 to $123,755. The base salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, such as relevant experience and education.
