Role Responsibilities

As a Product Development Engineer reporting to a Product Development Team Lead, youwill:

  • leverage your blend of mechanical, electronics, robotics, and firmware knowledge and skills to
    design and engineer elegant and practical electromechanical solutions with manufacturability and end-user satisfaction in mind.
  • help plan, execute, and document the design, build, testing, and prototyping of innovative new products.
  • use systematic research methods to draw out customer and end-user requirements.
  • collaborate with clients, vendors and peers to identify and execute sound design solutions.
  • collaborate with the Inertia team and vendors to ensure a seamless customer experience and deliver outstanding results.
  • do your part in the team to balance project scope, budget, timing, and deliverables.
  • develop and encourage strong peer relationships across various disciplines, functions, teams, and geographies.
  • use and promote Inertias Quality Management System to guide daily work.
  • identify and implement continuous improvement
  • actively support and promote workplace health, safety, and wellness.
  • perform other relevant duties as may be assigned.


Who we are looking for

You have:

  • a university degree in a relevant engineering discipline (i.e., Mechatronics, Electrical, Computer) or equivalent combination of advanced education and experience.
  • 5+years of experiencedesigning and optimizing electromechanical systems.
  • proven ability to apply mechanical, electronics and software engineering fundamentals to successfully solve complex design challenges.
  • the ability to communicate complex and abstract ideas, visually, verbally, and in writing.
  • experience with embedded firmware development in C, C++.
  • experience with PCB design and schematic capture using Altium Designer, KiCAD or similar.
  • ability to troubleshoot and debug electronics hardware using lab equipment such as multimeter, oscilloscope, signal analyzer, hardware debugger etc.
  • experience (and enjoy) working hands-on with electronics and mechanical systems, including soldering, wiring, assembling, and testing these systems.
  • ability to develop analytical models and perform data analysis, preferably with Python.
  • experience developing control systems with embedded or industrial solutions.
  • experience with data acquisition
  • familiarity with and ability to effectively use version control tools such as Git.
  • competency with computer aided design and engineering tools(e.g., SolidWorks, Onshape, etc.).
  • proven ability to work directly and successfully with external customers and suppliers.
  • a passion andperseverance for all aspects of product design, engineering, and prototyping.
  • experience in an ISO09001 or ISO13485 quality management environment is an asset.
  • a desire to be part of and help build a high performing team.

Employment Type: Full Time

Primary Work Location: Hybrid based out of our34 Kern Road, Unit 3, Toronto, Ontario, Canada office. Must have the ability to commute to the office to support project and team needs...Must be legally permitted to work in Canada. International travel may be required.

Annual Salary: We are considering candidates with a variety of experience levels. We recognize its a competitive market, salary will be commensurate with knowledge, skills, experience, and local market conditions.
