Position: Project Engineer Intern
Location: Prineville, OR Office (with opportunities for project site visits and limited travel as needed)
Pay Range: $20 - $30 per hour DOE
R-2 Contractors is seeking motivated and driven Project Engineer Interns who are currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. This internship is designed to provide hands-on exposure to heavy civil, underground utility, foundation, and power infrastructure construction projects
.
Our internship program is intended to support students throughout their college careers, providing opportunities to work during summer, winter, spring, and fall breaks. Successful interns may have the opportunity to continue with R-2 throughout multiple years of school and ultimately transition into a full-time Project Engineer position upon graduation.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain real-world construction experience, work alongside experienced industry professionals, and develop the skills needed for a successful career in heavy civil construction.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Superintendents with daily project activities

Help organize and maintain project files, documentation, and records

Support subcontractor and supplier coordination efforts

Assist with tracking project quantities, production rates, materials, and equipment usage

Participate in project meetings and gain exposure to project planning and execution processes

Assist in reviewing plans, specifications, and project documents

Help compile information needed for work plans, schedules, and project reports

Support budget tracking and material management efforts

Assist with submittals, RFIs, and other project documentation processes

Perform site visits as opportunities arise to gain field exposure and understand construction operations

Learn and apply industry best practices related to safety, quality, and project execution
Requirements:

Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or related degree program

Strong interest in heavy civil construction, underground utilities, foundations, renewable energy, or power infrastructure projects

Basic understanding of construction principles through coursework, prior internships, or related experience

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Strong organizational and time management skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Willingness to learn and take on new challenges

Ability to work effectively in a team environment

High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills

Self-motivated with a positive attitude and strong work ethic

Ability to successfully complete pre-employment drug & alcohol screening and background check
